With a busy legislative session behind us, we have a historically important election looming. There is much work to do in the 15 days between now and election day, the results of which will have far-reaching consequences for the future of health care and health policy

To that end, Health Access is sponsoring a post-election symposium on Tuesday, December 4th, in Sacramento, to highlight the work ahead on health reform, the California budget, and more. While looking to the future, it will also be a time to revist the past, as Health Access celebrates our 25th Anniversary

For twenty-five years, Health Access has been a central voice for health care consumers; fighting health care budget cuts; winning key consumer protections; working for prevention and wellness; and leading efforts for expanded access to quality, affordable health care for all Californians—including the passage and implementation of the Affordable Care Act. We hope that after the election, our community can come together to fulfill the promise of health reform.
To commemorate these efforts, Health Access will hold a twenty-fifth anniversary celebration on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at The Citizen Hotel in Sacramento.

This two-part “Fulfilling the Promise” event will include a program and discussion from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., to lay out next steps for California health advocates—well-timed right after a consequential election that will shape our work for the next several years. It will be a chance to help set the post-election agenda of advancing our values in a new political landscape, regardless of the electoral outcome.

Speakers include California Health and Human Services Secretary Diana S. Dooley, Assemblyman Dr. Richard Pan and Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez, respective chairs of the Assembly and Senate Health Committees, Assemblywomen Holly Mitchell, chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, and others. Following the program at 5:00 p.m. will be a reception celebrating the progress we have made over the past twenty-five years toward the goal of universal health care for all.

As a coalition organization, Health Access appreciates the support and partnership of its allied organizations and individual members, and seeks sponsorships and support to make the event, and the work ahead, a success. Sponsoring organizations will be recognized in the written program book, and will receive tickets as described on the sponsorship reply form. You may designate any tickets you are unable to use as scholarship tickets to encourage attendance by Health Access coalition partners and volunteers.

From Presidency to Prop 30, this election will be consequential, so make your vote heard. Regardless of the results, Health Access hopes this 25th anniversary even on December 4th is not just a time for reflection but to regroup and continue to work to fulfilll the promise of health reform.

We hope to see you there to celebrate.
Health Access California promotes quality, affordable health care for all Californians.
